The Back story
On July 10 1555,the French privateer Jacques de Sores anchored his Pirate ship in an inlet a quarter of a league westward of Havana, Cuba and disembarked with two hundred men. He proceeded to march his force into Havana by land, occupy the city, demand a high ransom, and burn the town down upon it not being met. On this day a very wealthy man Samuel Hinspock lived in Havana with his son Roberto. Samuel held an extremely important treasure, a small statue of an elephant, carved for him by his late Father after he had travelled to what was later known as Asia. After his return, his Father had told no one but Samuel of his adventure as he had been paid off by Ferninand Magellan on his own discovery of the continent. This elephant statue was both proof of his late fathers discovery of Asia years before Ferdinand Magellan's discovery in 1519, and also very dear to Samuel as a reminder of his father. Samuel caught word of the men coming into Havana and knew his family, being one of the wealthiest, would be in danger. He immediately sent his son Roberto, along with the elephant statue, all the money he had and what food he could grab, out of the city to wait for him in Baracoa. Samuel didnt survive the attack and, after a year of waiting, his son took the elephant statue and the money and, fearing he would be taken into slavery, burried it, never telling a sole until his own death bed some thirty years later. Roberto had indeed been enslaved and he therefore had not any children of his own. He did however have a very good friend Lucas Derivio whom he had told about his buried treasure. Lucas was a patient man and he waited for twenty years before digging up the treasure and displaying it in a small museum in Baracoa. It became known as the treasure of Baracoa.Descendants of Ferninand Magellan soon got word of this treasure and realised that if anyone put two and two together they would realise that their whole rich life was based on a lie so they plotted to steal the treasure. However Lucas was one step ahead of them and he quickly hid away with the elephant statue and stayed in hiding until his own death bed. The descendants of Ferninand Magellan put a bounty on Lucas' head and offered a reward for anyone who could bring them the hidden treasure of Baracoa. This treasure was passed down through generations long after Lucas died with the legend of its worth and need to keep it secret following in its journey. It could of course have changed history as it was known, implicate many important families and, if it fell into the wrong hands it could make someone very wealthy. The reward for finding it remained in the bank whilst it passed from generation to generation and continent to continent. The reward money for the long lost treasure of Baracoa is still in the bank and today it is worth £1000. The person who finds it first will be eligible for this reward.
